Links: Get Involved

In addition to the interesting film links, this section highlights something I’m a big believer in ... volunteering! There are many amazing and worth while organizations throughout Los Angeles that are in constant need of free volunteer help. Since many of these organizations are non-profit, they need all the help and support they can get to keep going. There are many benefits you can get for volunteering as well. For example, most of the other people you volunteer with are usually in the movie biz (as many of us are.) Volunteering is a great way to network, make friends and meet people who share your same interests. You also get to see movies for free! For me, volunteering has been such a positive thing! It makes me feel like I’m an active (not passive) participant in the film community around me. If you don’t have the time to volunteer, you can contribute in other ways as well. These organizations are always seeking new members. Membership also has perks, and it is an equally great way to help out. I would encourage you all, whether it’s your time, your money, your name or your prestige, to please contribute and support your local film organizations. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did. -

Here is a list of some of the great organizations in Los Angeles (and National ones as well) that could use volunteer help, new members, and/or contributions:

UCLA
As may of you may already know, roughly 80% of all silent films no longer exist, and about 50% of all films made before 1950 have been forever lost. UCLA is dedicated to film preservation! Whether they are Hollywood classics, newsreels, or low end B-movies, these films are important artistically, culturally, and historically. They are a vital part of our past, and UCLA is doing everything it can to save them from permanent decomposition. Your support of the UCLA Film and Television Archive is urgently needed to help achieve these goals. You may make your tax-deductible check payable to the UCLA Foundation (#5350).
