Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Inside Man, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Supersize Me) comes to Doc U! Known for his intimate portraits of subjects and deep examination of topics, Spurlock embraces cutting edge storytelling formats, including 3-D and web only broadcast, pushing the boundaries of what we expect from a documentary. How you release your doc—and how audiences see it—have changed dramatically in the past decade, offering filmmakers more and more ways to connect audiences with their films. What hasn’t changed is the value an experienced publicist can bring to your team as you try to get the attention of critics, bloggers, influencers and viewers, and perhaps pick up an award or two along the way.

Whether you’re doing festivals, DIY, day and date, or multi-platform, a publicist can be the most valuable person at your side, helping to develop a release strategy, bringing in strategic partners, and getting the feature story that will deliver what every film needs to survive: eyeballs.

Moderated by Josh Welsh, Co-President of Film Independent, this Doc U will feature a panel of leading publicists for documentaries, including Amy Grey, President of Dish Communications, David Magdael, President of David Magdael & Associates, Inc. and Nancy Willen, President of Acme PR.

Seeking Volunteers and Interns for the 2013 Los Angeles Film Festival, June 13 - 23 at L.A. LIVE
Now in its nineteenth year, the Los Angeles Film Festival showcases the best in new American and international cinema and provides the movie-loving public with access to some of the most critically acclaimed filmmakers, film industry professionals and emerging new talent by bringing them together in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world.

Our volunteers and interns are a key component to making the Festival work. As a volunteer and intern, you have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and be at the forefront of the Festival. Volunteers and interns at the LA Film Fest are ambassadors for the filmmaking community and help ensure an enjoyable experience for both our Festival filmmakers and guests. Whether it’s working in theater operations, answering ticketing questions, or setting up a Q&A panel, you can help bring to life a world-class cinematic event.

Volunteer Requirements:

*Volunteers must attend one mandatory orientation meeting prior to the Festival (May 29 or June 1, 2013)

*Volunteers must work a minimum of 20 hours during the Festival (June 13 – 23, 2013)

Intern Requirements:

Interns assist with the preparations leading up to the Festival, ideally working with a department that matches their career interests. Internship dates vary by department, but generally begin in May and go through the end of June. Interns are required to work one day per week, and full time from June 10 – 28. Departments currently seeking Interns include Events, Production, Filmmaker Relations, Marketing, Publicity, Technical (A/V), Videography/Editing, Film Independent Membership Outreach, Theater Operations, Ticketing, and Volunteers.
