Echo Park Film Center to Screen Misfit Films Feature CARBUNCLE
Misfit Films Announces “Sponsor a Screening” Film Distribution Strategy
Burbank, Calif., April 28, 2008 – Misfit Films announces new distribution strategy for CARBUNCLE, director T. Arthur Cottam’s first feature film. The “Sponsor a Screening” plan is an independent distribution system wherein a person or organization pays the upfront costs for the theater rental and the net profit is split between the sponsor and filmmaker..
“The idea just made sense,” commented Cottam. “CARBUNCLE is a difficult film for distributors to get behind. It’s edgy, experimental, and deals with some heavy subject matter in a humorous way. When the Echo Park Film Center programmed it, we sold out both screenings and got an overwhelmingly positive response from the audience. People loved it and wanted to see it again. I knew we had to keep the momentum for the film going, despite not having traditional financial backing. This method benefits everyone involved: the sponsor makes money, our movie reaches a broader audience, and there’s incentive to pack the theater. The fact that we already have six sponsored screenings is really encouraging.”
CARBUNCLE was made on a micro-budget over the course of five years and had its World Premiere at the Milan Film Festival. “I’m excited to screen at the Echo Park Film Center,” says Cottam. “They have the same independent spirit with which this film was made.”
CARBUNCLE, a mobile home drama with a disabling sense of humor, concerns a director with Asperger’s Syndrome making a movie about a mentally challenged woman who is manipulated by her alcoholic social worker.
