cARTel: Collaborative Arts LA, the folks who brought you Brokechella, FORT and Sound/Stage is proud to announce The Third Annual No Budget Film Festival, which will take place August 25-26, 2012 at The Last Bookstore and Downtown Independent.
In an era where indie film budgets still break the million dollar mark, cARTel is doing its part to rally filmmakers to break through bloated budget bullying and create anyway, not letting a lack of funds prevent them from exploring the lengths of their creativity and ingenuity.
This unique festival challenges filmmakers to free themselves of the most frustrating aspect of filmmaking—raising money for a budget. So without cash, what do our filmmakers do? They get crafty. And resourceful. They certainly get creative. But best of all, they collaborate and form inspired new networks of fellow artists and professionals. NBFF, at its core, is an experiment in independent filmmaking in its purest sense. Like everything cARTel, NBFF exemplifies how we promote and celebrate the power of collaboration in creative communities.
This year, the No Budget Film Festival returns to the Downtown Independent for the Sunday night screening and for the first time, is adding a day of panels the day before held at The Last Bookstore.
In the spirit of keeping things low cost, a pass for all three events will run attendees $20.

It’s official: 2012 not only marks the biggest NBFF yet, it also marks cARTel’s official move into its new space right in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles! Join us as we celebrate original art created specifically for this year’s films as well as a party to celebrate our new DTLA home.
For the first time in NBFF history, we are commissioning artists to create original pieces inspired by one of our selected films- be it a poster, painting, or even sculpture. This year’s Gallery Party will not only feature the one-of-a-kind artwork inspired by this years’ competing films, but will also serve as a screening space for the honorable mentions, and a few very special world premieres from our judges and panelists, as well as serve as the grand opening of cARTel’s new Downtown LA home. Come join us as we kick-off a new festival and new beginnings in our new space. Come mingle with your fellow No Budget attendees as well as filmmakers and special guests, as we gear up for the festival and celebrate cARTel becoming a permanent fixture in the DTLA scene.
