Creator of the Golden Globe and Peabody-winning mega-franchise THE X-FILES, Chris Carter became a household name along with the unforgettable Sculley and Mulder as portrayed by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. Carter graces the Skirball stage with his presentation of the Oscar-winning 1946 classic GREAT EXPECTATIONS, directed by David Lean, generally acknowledged as one of the greatest translations of literature to film of all time.

ABOUT CHRIS CARTER:
Chris Carter is director/writer/producer of the current X-FILES feature film, I WANT TO BELIEVE. Carter got his start in the entertainment business in 1985 when Jeffrey Katzenberg, then chairman of Walt Disney Studio Entertainment, read one of Carter’s screenplays and signed him to a development deal. Carter went on to develop projects for Twentieth Century Fox, where, in 1993, he created THE X-FILES. THE X-FILES was the winner of the Golden Globe for Best Drama in 1995 and 1997, Emmy-nominated three times for Best Drama, and winner of a Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting. Chris’s production company—Ten Thirteen Productions—has been responsible for 201 episodes of THE X-FILES, 67 episodes of MILLENNIUM, 9 episodes of HARSH REALM, 13 episodes of THE LONE GUNMAN, and the original X-FILES feature film, FIGHT THE FUTURE.

One of the great translations of literature into film, David Lean’s Great Expectations brings Charles Dickens’s masterpiece to robust onscreen life. Pip, Magwitch, Miss Havisham, and Estella populate Lean’s magnificent tapestry, beautifully photographed by Guy Green and designed by John Bryan.
