Hope / Crosby “Road” Picture Film Festival

June 22 - June 24

June 22nd – 24th

Hope / Crosby “Road” Picture Film Festival

Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour starred in a series of seven “Road Pictures” from 1940-1962.  These films were comedic, adventurous and romantic — with music too!  Much of the dialogue in the Road Pictures was ad-libbed by Crosby and Hope.  You can tell they had a blast making these films, and decades later we’re still laughing and enjoying the fun.

Friday June 22nd – 8:15pm

ROAD TO SINGAPORE (1940)
This was the one that started it all — the first of the “road pictures”.  It features our two boys trying to forget about their former romances, swearing off women for good — until they meet Dorothy Lamour.  Great comedy and some dramatic moments too.

Saturday June 23rd – 2:30pm

ROAD TO MOROCCO (1942)
In this one, Crosby and Hope place two carefree castaways on a desert shore.  They find an Arabian Nights city where they compete for the luscious Princess Shalmar. Totally entertaining escapist fun. Some say it’s the best of the bunch!

Saturday June 23rd – 8:15pm

ROAD TO UTOPIA (1945)
In this one of the “road picture” series, our boys play a pair of down-on-their-luck entertainers.  The result is a thoroughly enjoyable, fast-paced musical romp, complete with sight gags, talking animals, and endless hilarity. This is one of the best!

Sunday June 24th – 2:30pm

ROAD TO RIO (1947)
This was the 5th in the series with more music and a tighter script than the earlier “road pictures”.  Crosby and Hope play a pair of stowaways on a boat to Rio, resulting in some genuinely hilarious scenes and even a memorable appearance from the Andrews Sisters.
