CHARLIE CHAPLIN’S TRAMP CENTENNIAL (1914)

Celebrating 100 years of cinema’s most iconic character, Charlie Chaplin’s “little tramp”, with a screening of several of his earliest comedies including the first film released with the tramp character, KID AUTO RACES AT VENICE (1914) made at Keystone, MABEL’S MARRIED LIFE (1914) co-starring Mabel Normand, THE MASQUERADER (1914) featuring Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle and Chaplin in drag, as well as THE IMMIGRANT (1917) and THE ADVENTURER (1917) from Chaplin’s Mutual films period.

THE LAST WARNING (1929)
starring Laura La Plante, Montague Love, Margaret Livingston and John Boles. Directed by Paul Leni. A Universal Picture.

“The picture of a thousand thrills!” Five years after a leading actor was murdered, a closed theater reopens with a new production of the fatal play with what remains of the original cast. Throughout rehearsals “ghostly” happenings serve to frighten off the cast even as they struggle to discover the identity of the original murderer.

Surprise short subjects will be shown before each feature.

All films will feature live musical accompaniment by Michael Mortilla and will be presented on authentic 16mm projectors.

Michael Mortilla's scores have been performed at the Library of Congress, National Archives, Olympic Games Arts Festival, Chicago Symphony and the Academy of Motion Pictures.

Enjoy your evening of silent film by beginning early - bring a picnic dinner and relax before seeing the films. A flashlight is recommended due to limited lighting in our parking area. Sponsored by the National Park Service, Hollywood Heritage, and the Silent Society. Tickets are $6.00 for the general public, $3.00 for children under 12, and $5.00 for Hollywood Heritage Members.
