30th Anniversary-RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981)

Presented by the Academy’s Science and Technology Council Hosted by film historian and author Eric Lichtenfeld

As part of the “Prime Tech” screening series, the Science and Technology Council presents a 30th anniversary screening of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), featuring an onstage discussion with members of the film’s crew.

Shooting around the globe, director Steven Spielberg and his crew braved 130-degree temperatures and 6,000 live reptiles to create this adventure that celebrates – and transcends – the classic serials of the 1940s.

An Academy Award nominee for Cinematography, Directing, Music (Original Score) and Best Picture, and winner for Art Direction, Film Editing, Sound, Visual Effects and Special Achievement in Sound Effects Editing, the film stars Harrison Ford as archaeologist Indiana Jones, who must race against Nazi forces and a shadowy rival in a life-or-death quest to recover the lost Ark of the Covenant.

Several key members of the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” crew will gather for an onstage discussion of the role motion picture science and technology played in shaping the movie.
