A Centennial Tribute to James Stewart

Thursday, June 12th at 8:00pm at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theatre

In June the Academy will celebrate the centennial of James Stewart with a program of film clips and conversation with family, friends and colleagues from his celebrated film career. The tribute will serve as the closing night of the UCLA Film & Television Archive’s retrospective screening series beginning May 23.

Frequently cited for his quintessential “everyman” persona, Stewart demonstrated a remarkable facility for comedies, dramas, romances, thrillers, Westerns and almost everything in between. He earned five Academy Award® nominations, including one win (for The Philadelphia Story in 1940), and an Honorary Award in 1984 “for his fifty years of memorable performances.”

In conjunction with “A Centennial Tribute to James Stewart,” the UCLA Film & Television Archive will present a retrospective screening series at the Billy Wilder Theater in Westwood. For more information, please call the Archive at (310) 206-8013 or visit

Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased ONLINE, by mail (HTML or PDF format) or at the Academy during regular business hours. The Samuel Goldwyn Theater is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills.
