ACTOR’S INSTINCT: A TRIBUTE TO SHARON STONE

Synopsis:

FRIDAY, MARCH 18TH TO SATURDAY, MARCH 19TH AT 7:30PM

Sharon Stone made an auspicious - if brief - debut on film in a non speaking role in Woody Allen's STARDUST MEMORIES; the part was the first collaboration with an acclaimed director for an actress who would go on to work with Martin Scorsese, Albert Brooks, Sidney Lumet, Paul Verhoeven and many other noted filmmakers. Her star-making turn as the brilliant femme fatale in Verhoeven's BASIC INSTINCT was the first in a series of rich parts in films such as LAST DANCE, BROKEN FLOWERS and Scorsese's CASINO, for which Stone won a Golden Globe. As comfortable with comedy (most notably in Albert Brooks' THE MUSE) as wrenching drama and comic book action, Stone recalls the golden age of Hollywood glamour in roles that are as dynamic as they are complex.

Join us for a tribute to the career of Sharon Stone, including a screening of THE QUICK AND THE DEAD.

FRIDAY, MARCH 18TH AT 7:30PM

CASINO
Dir. Martin Scorsese
1995, Universal, 178 min.

The mob places master sports bookie Ace Rothstein (Robert De Niro) in Las Vegas to run the town, a plan that goes awry when Ace falls for opportunistic hooker Ginger (Sharon Stone in an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning performance). Cinematically spectacular.

**IN PERSON: Actress Sharon Stone!!!

SATURDAY, MARCH 19TH AT 7:30PM

20th Anniversary!

BASIC INSTINCT
Dir. Paul Verhoeven
1991, Sony Repertory, 127 min.

Director Paul Verhoeven’s super-steamy erotic thriller pits embittered police detective Michael Douglas against the bisexual queen of femmes fatale, Sharon Stone, a twisted goddess and writer who may just be the ice-pick murderer the cops are searching for. Joe Eszterhas’ screenplay is notoriously politically incorrect in this extremely entertaining chess game of terminal seduction.

THE QUICK AND THE DEAD
Dir. Sam Raimi
1995, Sony Repertory, 107 min.

Evil sadist Gene Hackman meets his match when a gun-slinging Sharon Stone enters his town looking for revenge in Sam Raimi's hyperkinetic Western. A stellar supporting cast, including Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lance Henriksen and Woody Strode, adds energy to this love letter to the spaghetti Westerns of Sergio Leone.
