RAGING BULL (1980) 129 MIN 35MM Rated R
DIR Martin Scorsese SCR Paul Schrader, Mardik Martin (based on the book Raging Bull: My Story by Jake LaMotta, Joseph Carter, Peter Savage)
PROD Robert Chartoff, Irwin Winkler
CAST Robert De Niro, Cathy Moriarty, Joe Pesci, Frank Vincent, Nicholas Colasanto

Nominated for eight Academy Awards and boasting some of the best fight scenes on film, Robert De Niro (who won Best Actor honors and famously gained 50 pounds for the role) plays self-destructive, real-life middleweight champion Jake LaMotta. His increasing paranoia leads to professional and personal devastation as his manager-brother Joe Pesci and teenaged wife Cathy Moriarty grapple with his violence outside the ring. Bristling with energy and shot in crisp black-and-white, this is a must-see on the big screen.

#4 on the AFI 100 Years - 100 Movies - 10th Anniversary Edition, and #51 on the AFI 100 Years...100 Thrills list.

POLTERGEIST (1982) 114 MIN 35MM Rated PG
DIR Tobe Hooper SCR Steven Spielberg, Michael Grais, Mark Victor
CAST Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Beatrice Straight, Dominique Dunne, Oliver Robins, Heather O'Rourke

"They're here!" The haunted house genre moves to the suburbs, as a family discovers that the mysterious occurrences in their new tract home--at first amusing bits of mischievous telekinesis, later more terrifying acts of deadly violence--may have something to do with the Native American burial grounds underneath their southern California subdivision.

Directed by THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE's Tobe Hooper, but overwhelmingly bearing the stylistic fingerprints of writer/producer Steven Spielberg, POLTERGEIST represents an unholy marriage of family film and intense horror cinema.

#84 on AFI 100 Years... 100 Thrills list, and the line, "They're here!" is #69 on AFI 100 Years...100 Movie Quotes list.

1984 105 MIN 35MM Rated PG
DIR Ivan Reitman SCR Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis
CAST Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts

After being fired from their university research jobs for performing questionable experiments, Drs. Venkman (Bill Murray), Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Spengler (Harold Ramis) promptly set up shop as parapsychologists specializing in psychic phenomena. There is no shortage of business, and the trio is soon ridding Manhattan of all kinds of bizarre apparitions. But the talents of these spirit exterminators is severely tested when they take on the case of beautiful, but demon-possessed, Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver), who is living in a building that is a conduit to the next world.

GHOSTBUSTERS is a lavish special-effects blockbuster, but it is also doubtful that there has ever been more hilarious, witty, ironic dialogue spoken between spurts of slime in the midst of an epic battle between good, evil and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

#28 on AFI 100 Years...100 Laughs list.
