AMERICAN EXPANSION / AN UNEQUAL FATE
Made in Austria

The Austrian Eye – Herbert Krill on America American Expansion
Austria, Germany, France 2004, documentary, 45min.
The need for expansion is deeply ingrained in the American psyche. It started with the pioneers who opened up the West - an achievement now celebrated by many museums and monuments. Today's Americans are still doing it - they settle in their own deserts, go to war in others', or attempt to colonize Mars. If they can't expand any other way, they will expand their lifestyle (and sometimes their waistline) as best they can.

Ungleiches Schicksal - Brothers of Dissimilar Fate
Austria, Germany. 2007, documentary, 67 min.
Heinrich and Thomas Mann were among the greatest German writers of their time. Brothers and competitors at the same time, their exile in Los Angeles reunited them on these shores, but not necessarily on the same planet. Herbert Krill's film is an intimate portrayal of a complicated relationship against the beautifully rendered backdrop of L.A.'s community of prominent Austrian and German Emigrés in the 1940s.

Herbert Krill will be present at the screening and available for a Q&A
