THE MODEL AND THE MARRIAGE BROKER 1951
DIR: George Cukor. CAST: Thelma Ritter, Jeanne Crain.
George Cukor directs comedienne Thelma Ritter in this charming and rarely screened romantic comedy by writer Charles Brabin. Ritter plays Mae Swasy, a middle-aged Manhattan matchmaker who caters to the needs of New York’s loneliest denizens. She gets more than she bargained for, however, when she meddles in the love life of a lingerie model (Crain). 35mm, 103 min.

THE MATING SEASON 1951
DIR: Mitchell Leisen. CAST: Thelma Ritter, Gene Tierney, Miriam Hopkins.
The Mating Season owes most of its breezy charm to the comedic expertise of Thelma Ritter, who earned a second Oscar nomination for her portrayal of down-and-out hamburger stand owner Ellen McNulty. Ritter shines with gutsy low-brow perfection as her character is mistakenly identified as a domestic on a visit to her son and his new fiancée in their high-society habitat. 16mm, 101 min.
