MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON (1939)
Starring Jimmy Stewart and Jean Arthur
Directed by the legendary Frank Capra (It’s a Wonderful Life), this is a great film, both funny and dramatic, about a naïve Washington outsider who finds himself appointed to the Senate fighting greed and corruption. Jean Arthur and Claude Rains are excellent in supporting roles. Capra’s optimism shines through and it’s easy to see why this film is a classic.
