I have faithfully watched the Academy Awards ever since I was old enough to remember. In 1997 I was in the hospital with kidney problems right before the Oscars. I told my Mom that regardless of my health I just HAD to be near a television to watch the ceremony. I have been a dedicated follower of the Oscars, but this year I have felt a real sense of boredom about the whole thing.

I am rarely this adamant about something, but drop what you are doing right now and GO SEE THIS MOVIE! There I said it. GOD GREW TIRED OF US is the story of a group of African men who fled from a brutal civil war in Sudan and were eventually given the chance to come to America. This film won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance last year and for good reason. This documentary is gut wrenching, heartbreaking, beautiful and uplifting all at the same time.
