THE TALL T

February 16, 2019 @ 1:30 pm

February 16th, 2019 at 1:30pm

THE TALL T (1957)

Directed by Budd Boetticher

Starring Randolph Scott, Richard Boone, and Maureen O’Sullivan | Screened in 35mm
Budd Boetticher’s taut gem, set mostly in a single desert location, features a story so clear and spare that Randolph Scott’s hero and Richard Boone’s villain are reduced to their bare essence. Boetticher’s penchant for dark humor is put to superb use, making the tension and bursts of violence even more effective.
January and February’s What Is a Western? screenings include classic pictures—a major Universal production and a low-budget Columbia quickie—that provide intriguing food for thought regarding what makes a “Western.” With contrasting yet equally entertaining approaches, they challenge our standard expectations of hero, villain, story, and even landscape.
Introduced by guest curator Jeremy Arnold, TCM film historian, commentator, and author of The Essentials: 52 Must-See Movies and Why They Matter.
Admission: Included With Museum Admission
